Hattie's Baptism

Hattie was baptized on April 14th 2013.

We are blessed to have my cousin Michaela and her husband Nate as her Godparents.

She was a very good girl all throughout the baptism.

Afterward we had a pasta lunch at our house, along with cake and ice cream. The cake wasn't what I had envisioned, but it tasted good. :) Hattie slept for several hours in her carseat when we got back to the house. Tired girl! Here she had fallen asleep again!

Emmett did not get a nap in that day. He was a bit of a mess at this point. Ha. Fell asleep at 5:30 that evening and slept until 7am the next day. Very tired to say the least!

Mommy's Girl!

My grandpa was able to come down with my aunt Michelle for the event as well and met Hattie for the first time. It was also the first time he had seen our home. It was great to have them both here. He was a little surprised by how heavy our big girl is! :)

We had a wonderful day and it was great celebrating Hattie's baptism with such wonderful friends and family.

Guess who..

Slept through the night last night?!
This girl....

And I am one well-rested Mama (excuse the lovely hair and no make-up)!

Hattie slept from 8:30pm to 6:00am. Lets hope this wasn't just a fluke!

Hattie is 3 months old!

Little Hattie turned 3 months old on April 30th! I can't believe she is getting so big.
  • She is probably around 15 pounds (guessing) and 25 inches.
  • Hattie is showing more and more personality every day. She gives us big flirty smiles where she tilts her head to the side.. so cute! She especially likes to smile when her big brother talks to her but will smile for both Mom and Dad as well.
  • She continues to lose some hair on the top and sides of her head and has one bald spot in the back. She still has some longer hair at the nape of her neck.. It may turn into a mullet, but we'll see.
  • We still think she has Daddy's eyes and Mommy's smile. So far we think it's a pretty good combination.
  • Her eyelashes and eyebrows are filling in more now. She has long eyelashes on top.
  • Her eyes are shifting much more towards brown but still look a little gray. They continue to change and should show their true colors by the time she is 6 months old.
  • Hattie continues to do well at daycare. I think she likes watching all of the craziness of the other kids there. The teachers just adore her as well. She gets a lot of attention. Mia (another girl who's about 3) told me she'd like to take her home. :) Some days she does not get as much sleep as she probably should and others she gets plenty. She eats 3 4 oz bottles while there.
  • She is in size 2 diapers and still in 3-6 months clothes. She was finally able to wear some of her summer outfits in that size. I was a little afraid that she would outgrow them before the weather warmed up but we had a beautiful weekend and she has worn several short/skirt/sleeveless outfits. She is in size 1 shoes (we just got a pair of sandals for summer) but they are a little tight.
  • Her nights are getting much better. Last night she fell asleep at 8:30pm and woke up at 5:00am and again at about 7:15. She is doing really well. Now she's not super consistent but there has been vast improvement. Sometimes she reverts to getting up once every 4 hours.
  • Today was the first time we tried the bumbo seat and she did quite well. She sat in it for 5-10 minutes before showing signs of being tired of holding her head up.
  • She typically is hungry about once every 3 hours.
  • So far we haven't really "played" with any toys. She can defintely hold a rattle and look at objects. She can also swat and kick at toys.
  • We have enjoyed reading books to her more recently and she seems very interested.
  • She does quite a bit of talking but it is still just oohs and aahs. She gets quite excited at times and lets out little squeals.
  • She is almost up to laughing but isn't quite there yet. She will probaby be laughing very soon.
  • Hattie loves bath time in her little tub. We set it up on our bathroom counter and she likes seeing herself in the mirror.
  • Her favorite entertainment currently is her silly brother. She enjoys it when he talks to her, sings, and tries to dance with her.
  • She no longer likes to be held up on our shoulders, she prefers to sit on our laps looking out - especially when we are in a rocking chair. She can get a little fussy at times - espcially when she is tired or has been held a lot and this usually calms her down.

March Picture Update

Looking back now, March was quite a busy month.. and Hattie has changed so much!

Papa Frank and Grandma Pat came to visit for the weekend. We ate at our favorite easy and convenient spot - Grandma Max's. It's a truck stop on Douglas that is never busy and has great breakfast that requires no cooking on our part!

Family pic...

Sunday afternoon nap.

Favorite spot to snooze..

Picture Picture! Cheese!!

Mommy's first day back at work, March 18th and Hattie's first day at Dragon Tot's.

Looking a little scared but she was a perfect little sweetie!

Looking more like my side of the family here I think.. :)

Playing with Daddy!

Emmett's first swimming lesson. These pictures look like he was having fun, but that's before he started crying! ha. Tonight is lesson number 4 and he has come a long way! First night, not so great. I am so glad we are taking him for that very reason.

Megan was in town. We had dinner with the girls. :) She is getting ready for her second bundle to arrive in June. Can't wait.. more friends! :)

Hi Guys! :) I really like to smile.

Emmett meets the Easter Bunny at the Wayland Easter egg hunt.

Ready to collect some eggs (although he is trying to wander off in the opposite direction)!

Oh wow, there's a puppy here! This was the highlight of the Easter egg hunt.

Grandma and Grandpa Nelson came to look for some eggs too!

Hattie's first time meeting Great Grandma B. She fell asleep in her arms. Grandma must have the touch. :)

Easter morning. The Easter Bunny found Emmett and Hattie at Grandma's house.

Silly Bunny!

Sweet Bunny!

Hattie is 2 Months Old

Hattie Jeanne turned 2 months old on March 30th. In some ways it is hard to believe 2 months have flown by already, but in others it feels as if she's always been a part of our family.
  • Hattie is getting to be a lot of fun. She started smiling around 5 weeks old. Recently it seems that every time we look over at her she is smiling and stretching.
  • She is also starting to coo. Her voice is so sweet. She gives little sighs and "ah"s. At times she even squeaks out a little "Ah-goo". When she falls asleep in my arms smiling she sometimes lets out a little sweet happy sigh. :)
  • At her two month appointment on the 27th Hattie weighed in at 13 lbs 3 oz (>97%) and 23 3/4 inches long (95%). Our doctor advised us not to put her on a diet at this point! haha. But she is definitely a big girl and getting more than enough nutrition.
  • She eats somewhat sporadically but will go between 2 and 4 hours in between feedings. She nurses pretty quick typically (10 minutes per side maximum).
  • Typically she will still only sleep for a 4-5 hour stretch initially at night and then another 3 hour stretch. So, I am still getting up 2x per night but am usually back in bed within 30 minutes. She always goes right back to sleep. I'd like to see her increasing to a 6 hour stretch at night but will try to be patient! I don't plan to try any sleep training until she is 4 months old.
  • Hattie's first day of daycare was on March 18th. She has been going on Mondays and Tuesdays every week and is now attending on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday since Mommy is easing back into working.
  • She does have typically 1 fussy time per day, which is usually in the 8pm hour. All she needs is a little rocking, jiggling, and patting from her Mommy and she drifts off to sleep. If she is cranky it is because she is tired.
  • Her bedtime is usually around 9:30pm so she gets up around 1:30-2:30am and then around 4 or 5am again.
  • Hattie is officially in her 3-6 months clothes now and has moved into size 2 diapers. She is growing faster than I would have guessed.
We love our little Hattie girl so much! We feel like we are now adjusted to life with 2 children. Hattie is a go with the flow baby (for the most part) and we are very thankful for that! We know she will only be more fun as she gets older. We can't wait to see more of her sweet personality.

Hattie is 1 Month Old

Our little Hattie Jeanne is really coming into her own. She looks a lot different than her brother did at this point. Mommy thinks she has Daddy's eyes but look more like Mommy overall with the shape of her face.. her lips and nose, etc. It does seem like it is difficult to determine who she really looks like she is still so young.

Hattie still sleeps a lot. She gets up about 2x/night.. depending on the night. She is also a grunter. She grunts so much at night that Daddy has decided to sleep in the guest room so he can be well rested for work. I plan to move her into her bedroom once I start back at work and I hope she may start to lengthen our her time between feeds at that point but of course there are no guarantees.. I'm also hoping that her cries and grunts will not wake Emmett up since their rooms are right next to eachother.

It took some hunting but we were able to find her preferred pacifier when she was about 2 weeks old. She prefers a MAM brand pacifier. I ended up trying 7 different pacifiers before she finally decided to keep that one in her mouth! Picky little thing.. :)

We recently gave her her first bottle. I purchased new bottles to try this time around, Dr. Brown's. She took it immediately.

When Hattie is awake she is much more alert now. She seems to really be filling out and also has increased her strength. She has better head control and also has a strong grip. She sometimes will grab my shirt, hair or necklace and we have tried to entice her to play with a few toys although that was largely unsuccessful.

Hattie must weigh over 10 pounds at this time. At her two week doctor appointment she weighed 9 pounds 6 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. She wears size 0-3 but I'm afraid will be in size 3-6 months very soon because she is so long. She is in apx the 90th percentile for all her measurements (head, weight, and length). Big girl! At her first doctor appointment I was concerned she may have been jaundiced.. however, she had several bowel movements at home and was having a lot of wet diapers. When Dr Waggonner saw her he did not even have us get her blood drawn because her coloring looked ok. At her two week appointment Dr. Secory said everything looked great!

Hattie lost her umbilical cord at 8 days old and we have given her several baths. She doesn't really mind the bath but is not pleased to get out and does not like when Mommy gets her dressed and puts her lotion on!

She does get somewhat fussy in the evenings now. I think it is just part of us getting to know eachother and what she needs from us. I am starting to try the methods described in the book "Babywise" and it is seeming to help. We'll see if it helps her sleep through the night as well! Overall it is mainly helping me to pay attention to things like how long it has been since her last feeding, when did she sleep last, etc. It is definitely a good thing.

We have truly enjoyed these first few weeks with our baby girl. It is a challenge to take care of both her and Emmett but luckily he is at daycare throughout the week (and enjoys being there!). I know he does feel left out at times but he has had us to himself for so long.. it will be good for him to learn to share. :) He is still adjusting. We'll get there!
